      The Common Core State Standards (CCSS) are a research-based progression of learning expectations for all K-12 students designed to prepare students for success in college and their careers, and to ensure high standards for all students, regardless of where they live.

      English Language Arts/Literacy Common Core State Standards:

      • Core Intellectual Skills and Key Features of the Standards Seven core overarching skills plus four important features of the standards.
      • Anchor Standards for Reading Overview for K-8.
      • Anchor Standards for Writing Overview for K-8.
      • Anchor Standards for Speaking and Listening Overview for K-8.
      • Anchor Standards for Language Overview for K-8.

      California State Standards

      In addition to the Common Core State Standards in ELA and math, California has also set rigorous standards in other curricular areas.

      California Next Generation Science Standards:

      • Crosscutting Concepts and Practices of Science and Engineering Seven core overarching concepts and eight core practices.
      • K-8 Science Topics Areas of study by grade.
      • Next Generation Science Standards (2013) Detailed, grade-by-grade standards.

      California Social Science Standards:

      • Core Intellectual Skills (K-8) Twenty-six core overarching skills.
      • Core Intellectual Skills (K-5) and Grade Level Themes Twelve K-5 skills and the theme for each grade.
      • California State Standards (1998) Detailed, grade-by-grade standards.

      California World Language Standards:

      • Stages of Language Learning and Categories of Language Learning Four stages of language learning and four categories.
      • California State Standards (2009) Detailed, stage-by-stage standards.

      California Physical Education Standards:

      • Overarching Standards K-8 Five overarching concepts, with sub categories.

      • Self-contained classroom teachers in Grades 1-5 are reporting PE instructional minutes on their classroom websites.

      California Health Standards:

      • Overarching Standards K-8 and Content Areas and Grade Level Assignments Eight overarching standards and content areas by grade.
      • California State Standards (2008) Detailed, grade-by-grade standards.

      California Visual and Performing Arts Standards:
